Program Name

Unlike other programs of computer translation the Pragma project utilized multilingual technology of translation in which all the possible directions of translation are supported for the chosen number of languages. For example, three languages - English, Russian and Ukrainian have six variations of language pairs:
English-Russian, Russian-English, English-Ukrainian, Ukrainian-English, Russian-Ukrainian, Ukrainian-Russian.

As you can see the number of directions is more then number of language modules. Obviously, in this case it is much more convenient to talk about language modules then about translation directions.

In the name Pragma 5.x the last digit indicates the number of included languages.

So, Pragma 5.2 - works with any two languages, Pragma 5.3 - with any three etc. Pragma 5.7 includes the complete set of all language modules available now.

In addition to the basic translation dictionaries, there are also dictionaries of the special terms on 50-ty different subjects. These dictionaries contain enough rare and specific terms. If you need to translate a specialized document, the switching on to "Plus" mode may help you to raise the translation accuracy.

Presence of special terms dictionaries is indicated in the name of the program as a sign plus. Pragma 5.x+ or Pragma 5.x Plus.

Organization of dictionaries

Each language is located in a separate module. There are 7 language modules: English, German, French, Latvian, Polish, Russian and Ukrainian.

As far as Pragma is based on module principle there is a possibility to choose the necessary language modules and combining them into the required translation directions.

It is necessary to take into account some feature of organization of the system. Russian is a basic connective language almost for all translating directions. It means that during translation, fpr instance, from Latvian to Ukrainian the presence of Russian module is necessary.

An exception is made for Polish. Taking into account the grammatical similarity of the Polish and Ukrainian languages, a basic connective language for Polish is Ukrainian. Therefore, if the Polish module is chosen the Ukrainian module is also employed.

Updating the program takes into account these features automatically.

Provided with the included dictionaries a user can fill up and edit his/her personal dictionaries. User dictionaries have the highest priority in translation; this allows correcting the meaning of translated words and expressions.
